Hari Raya Aidilfitri, known globally as Eid al-Fitr, the festival is observed by Muslims everywhere, but in Malaysia, it carries its own rhythm. In addition to being a religious moment, it is cultural, social, and deeply personal milestone shared across a multi-ethnic society where Malays, Chinese, Indians, and the others take part in the festivities together. The celebration stretches for weeks, sometimes a full month, with gatherings hosted by families & community.

Actually, preparations have already been building for weeks during the month of Ramadan. Homes are cleaned top to bottom, curtains are changed. Most kitchens at home fill with smell of rendang, a curry & meat dish cooked with coconut milk, chewy rice or lemang cooked in bamboo & firm rice or ketupat wrapped in woven palm leaves - a staple during Eid al-Fitr as a symbol of forgiveness & gratitude, usually served with rendang, satay & traditional cakes.

In conjunction with Eid al-Fitr celebrations, I remember during my previous tenure as Chairman of the Federation of Asian Institute of Management Alumni Associations, Inc (FAIM), my good friend who is the President of Bangladesh Asian Institute Management Alumni Association (BAAIM), Dr. Md Muzaffar Ahmed from Dhaka made a reciprocal visit to Malaysia. He aimed to further strengthen multi-bilateral relations with BAAA, Kelab AIM Malaysia & FAIM.

Dr. Muzaffar's visit was a success to further foster stronger cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, building upon the strong foundation established by his predecessor, FCA Md. Anwar Hossain Chowdhury. Both of them enjoyed the Malaysian hospitality, alumni engagements, visiting tourism sites and foods.

I have visited Bangladesh many times & found that Eid al-Fitr is one of the most significant religious festivals for the local Muslims celebrated with deep devotion, festivity and enthusiasm. A special munajat is offered after prayers, seeking Allah's blessings for peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

Today, 26 March 2026 is the great People's Republic of Bangladesh celebrates its historic 56th anniversary of the momentous Independence Day. May the exemplary relationship between our alumni grow deeper and stronger and bring mutual benefit as we look ahead for more greater accomplishments.
