Kota Kinabalu: A of RM900,000 has been allocated this year for the maintenance and cleaning of major drainage systems in the Sandakan district.
State Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, said on Thursday in response to a question from Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Suhaimi Nasir.
According to Isnin, the Ministry receives an annual allocation under the State Supply Provision S39, which is then distributed to all Local Authorities (PBT) across Sabah based on their respective applications.
“As such, there is no fixed annual allocation specifically provided to the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) for drainage maintenance and cleaning works,” he said.
“However, based on records, a total of RM558,000 was allocated to MPS under the S39 provision between 2020 and 2024.
“In addition, for 2025, MPS has allocated RM900,000 for the maintenance and cleaning of major drains under the project titled ‘The Maintenance of Major Drain and Associated Works (Urban Drainage),’” he added.
Earlier, Suhaimi had inquired about the annual allocation set aside by the government for the maintenance and cleaning of drainage systems in the Sandakan district.
