RNR guests shocked over fire

RANAU: Guests at a local RNR here were shocked when smoke billowed from a nearby area while they were taking a break, here, Sunday.

Head of BBP Ranau Station, PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib, said the incident happened at the Ranau-Telupid Taviu RNR Spring Road at about 11.20am.

“The call was received through the Station Line at 1.24am and a group of six firemen led by the Operations Commander, PBK II Becket Gumat rushed to the location.

“Arriving at the scene which is located 62km from the station, we found a fire involving a 12x18 feet permanent type generator room that was on fire along with the generator inside,” he said.

He said the operation was under control at 3.35pm.

He reiterated for the public to be more cautious of fire incidents, especially during the current windy season.

“Fire in an open area could easily become uncontrollable and turn disastrous.

“If there is any open burning that cannot be avoided, it must be monitored and controlled, in order to prevent the spread of fire,” he said.

He said every fire and rescue personnel in the district is on standby and ready to act upon any fire incident in the district.
