PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Memorandum Circular 139 on Oct. 26, providing guidelines for this year’s observance of the National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, Survivors and Their Families on Nov. 15.
”The 2026 National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, Survivors and Their Families will be observed on the third Sunday of November with the theme, ‘Remember. Reflect. Act. Save Lives,’ and its successful observance will require the active participation of all concerned government agencies and instrumentalities, as well as the support of local government units and the private sector,” the memorandum read.
Republic Act 11468, also known as the National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, Survivors and Their Families Act, is a Philippine law approved on Jan. 23, 2020, during the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Its main purpose is to honor people who lost their lives in road crashes, recognize survivors and their families, and promote road safety awareness throughout the country.
The law promotes better support for road crash victims, survivors and their families. It recognizes that road crashes do not only affect the individuals involved. They also affect families, communities and society.
The Department of Transportation was tasked to provide guidelines for all programs and activities, while the Presidential Communications Office will promote public awareness of the event.
