MANILA, Philippines — Former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez is prepared to face any complaint filed against him, his lawyer said Friday, after the Office of the Ombudsman opened a preliminary investigation into him and several others over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
Lawyer Elaine Atienza said Romualdez is ready to answer any complaint and remains confident he can clear his name if the case is resolved fairly and based on the evidence.
“As we have said before, Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez is ready to face any complaint against him. We believe that if there is a fair contest and a fair judgment based on the evidence, Rep. Romualdez will be able to prove his side,” Atienza said.
She also urged the public to allow due process to take its course.
“We only ask the public to let due process prevail and allow the evidence to decide the case,” Atienza said.
