
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah captured three gold medals on Sunday at the Selangor 2026 22nd Sukma. Their initial breakthrough came a day after the opening ceremony in the pencak silat women’s team (seni regu) event.
Fiffy Ferlisa Frien, Manjaseerah Manuil and Sherlenna Abdullah secured the title by defeating their Johor opponents in the final.
Samantha clinched the women’s pole vault title.
The remaining two gold medals came from athletics. Earl Isaac Mitzler Fredolin won the men’s shot put with a 15.11-metre throw, while Samantha Mae Godfrey Binting captured the pole vault title with a 3.45-metre clearance.
Pencak silat also delivered two silver medals, courtesy of Roslyana Rustam in the women’s seni solo and Roslamn Habil in the men’s seni creative solo.
Additionally, the contingent collected two more bronzes with Nathan Zeke Augustin securing one in the men’s 90kg judo event, while the men’s pencak silat regu team claimed the other.
Earl took gold in the men’s shot put.At press time, Sabah sat in ninth place with a total haul of three gold, two silver and four bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the Sabah sailing team is hoping to clinch two gold medals at the ongoing Malaysia Games.
Sabah State Sailing Association President Zainal Madi expressed strong confidence in the 14 athletes representing the State, attributing their capability to thorough preparation and impressive discipline throughout their training.
“We have high hopes for the Sabah sailing contingent that will compete in the Sukma Selangor 2026 Games.
“With thorough preparation, high discipline and sacrifices made during training, we firmly believe that the gold medal target can be achieved,” he said.
He added that they expect all athletes to perform at their best across all nine events they are entered in, and are particularly focusing on the ILCA 4 events in both the men’s and women’s categories for its two-gold medal target.
“This year, we are counting on competitive performances from all the athletes to achieve proud results for Sabah,” he added.
