
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah came second overall in the sailing event at the MSSM (Malaysia School Sports Council) meet held at Kuah waters, Langkawi over the weekend.
They managed to win five golds, one silver and seven bronzes to finish second behind champions Terengganu who won six gold, three silvers and four bronzes while in third place were Kedah with three golds, five silvers and three bronzes.
The gold medal winners were Muhammad Asnawi Iqbal Adam (ILCA 6 sponsored event & individual boys Under-15), Nascar Chong Na Jia (optimist individual female Under-14), Marcella Wilson Villaceran (BIC individual female techno) and the optimist team.
Marcella Wilson also won the only silver (BIC techno sponsored), while the bronzes came from Muhammad Aiman Aqeel Mohd Firdaus (Optimist Under-15 sponsored), Zeti Irdina Zainal (ILCA 4), Lucqmann Racheed Haron (BIC techno sponsored & individual male), Nur Hafizanah Zailan (optimist individual female Under-15), Zeti Irdina Zainal (ILCA 4 individual female) and Nur Hafizahanani Zailan (ILCA 6 individual female).

Despite failing to achieve their target of winning the overall title, Sabah Sports Council coach Dr Zainal Madi was pleased with the performance of the sailors.
“Overall, Sabah’s achievement this year is very satisfactory compared to 2022, where we only managed fifth place overall,” he said.
He also said it was a challenging condition for all the competitors with strong winds of up to 17 knots throughout the races.
