Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s shuttlers captured seven golds, two silvers and two bronzes at the 2nd World Chinese Badminton Federation 2023 tournament held at the Catholic High School Stadium in Sibu, Sarawak from August 25-27.

Quinton Yap Rung En and Yap Qar Siong won the men’s doubles open title by beating Barrie Chong Kwang Wei/Jonathan Kho Kai from Legacy Badminton Club, Kuching 31-22 in the final to take home the RM2,000 cash prize.

Yap Qar Siong delivered another gold in the parent/child category partnering his father Yap Wai Kium with a 31-27 win over Adam Yii Zhang Qing/Yii Chin Tiang from JAS Badminton Club.

Datuk Anthony Linggian and Bruni Garip continued their winning form by taking the men’s doubles (70) title where they defeated Neoh Cheong Kooi/Sing Chee Hui 31-16 in the final and again in the men’s doubles (140) category by beating the same opponents 31-21.

Read more The mixed pair of Henry Tai Shun Hien/Tan Kim Yoke also won two golds with a 31-22 win over Lee Sai Fok/Lai Mee Kong in the mixed doubles (100) final and a 31-19 victory in the mixed doubles (50) against Jamil Berodi/Voon Joon Mui.

The other gold came from Datin Cindy Julinos and Datin Rita Mujim in the women’s doubles (55) when they defeated New Zealand’s Au Jee Fong/Chiam Beng Bee 31-26.

The silvers were won by Kalasan Marin/Buati Nain (women’s doubles 100) and Datin Cinday /Datin Rita (women’s doubles 90) while the two bronzes came from Kelasan Marin/Buati Nian again (women’s doubles 45) and Calvin Ong/Naldo Fong Kuo Yong (men’s doubles open).

Meanwhile, Anthony and Bruni also revealed that they will be leaving on September 8 for the BWF World Seniors Championship in South Korea from September 11-17 and the Sibu meet was part of their preparation.
