Sabah Fest launch reflects State’s diverse heritage

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s rich cultural tapestry came alive Sunday at the launch of Sabah Fest 2025, with captivating performances of music and dance representing the five divisions – West Coast, Kudat, Sandakan, Tawau and the Interior.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew, who officiated the event, said the showcase was a reflection of the State’s diverse heritage.

“We are being treated to a captivating showcase of Sabah’s rich culture from the five divisions, brought to life through music and dance. I truly appreciate this effort, and I trust you have enjoyed it just as much,” she said in her speech.

Held in conjunction with National Day, Sabah Day and Malaysia Day, Sabah Fest 2025 runs for a month beginning with the theme “Unity in Diversity: Culture Unites Us.”The festival will feature a series of cultural highlights, including:Unity Fun Run & Walk on Sept 6, passing through iconic places of worship.Mini Carnival at Imago Mall on Sept 6–7, with cultural games and interactive activities.Grand Extravaganza on Sept 27–28 at Oceanus Boardwalk, featuring cultural dances from across Sabah.Cultural showcases at Gaya Street Sunday Market, Kota Kinabalu International Airport and Suria Sabah Mall.Liew said the festival was not only a celebration of arts and traditions but also a way of preserving heritage and empowering local communities.

“Sabah Fest is more than just a festival. It is about preserving our heritage, empowering our communities, and inviting the world to experience the unique spirit of Sabah,” she added.
