SANDAKAN: District Municipal Council (MPS) will upgrade Pasar Sibuga Jaya in phases to improve facilities for traders and visitors.

MPS President, Walter Kenson, said that the market, located in Batu 8, is the second busiest in Sandakan as it serves as a hub for local traders and residents.

“A site inspection was conducted in response to complaints from traders and visitors at Pasar Sibuga Jaya.

“Among the key issues that need urgent attention include the pipeline system, sewage, electrical wiring, flooring, and market stall tables.

“It is undeniable that these problems fall under MPS’s responsibility. Since its construction in the 1980s, much of the market’s infrastructure and equipment have never been upgraded,” he said.

He said this to the media after inspecting Pasar Sibuga Jaya alongside Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Jaffari Waliam on Friday.

Meanwhile, Jaffari welcomed Walter’s statement on the need to upgrade Pasar Sibuga Jaya to enhance comfort for traders and visitors.

He said that the market plays a crucial role in providing business opportunities for the B40 group, helping them sustain their livelihoods, while also serving as a key location for locals to purchase essential goods at affordable prices.

“It is the government’s responsibility to provide the best infrastructure for the people. We will strive to realise the upgrading of Pasar Sibuga Jaya in line with our Chief Minister’s directive to ensure the comfort of the people,” he said.
