MANILA, Philippines – The surge of cool, dry winds due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’, would continue to persist in the coming days, affecting most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, the state-run weather agency said on Sunday.

Weather specialist Veronica Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that amihan would also affect Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, and the rest of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), bringing cloudy skies with rain showers.

The same weather system is likely over the rest of Luzon, bringing partly cloudy to overcast skies and isolated light rains prevailing within the next 24 hours, she said in a 5 a.m. briefing.

Meanwhile, the convergence of hot and cold air, or shear line, would bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar, according to the national weather agency.

The rest of the country would likely have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, it added.
