  • A survey by online car retailer Cazoo found that nearly two-thirds of 18- to 24-year-olds experience 'refuel anxiety' when filling up their cars.
  • This anxiety affects 62 per cent of young drivers, almost double the 39 per cent reported by the total survey respondents.
  • Concerns include fears over parking, identifying the correct fuel, and operating the nozzle, stemming from concerns about making a mistake in public.
  • Half of those with refuel anxiety admit to letting their tank run dangerously low, with a quarter having run out of petrol, and two-thirds asking others to fill up for them.
  • The findings align with reports that the number of young people holding a full driving licence has halved since the late 1980s, with experts citing confidence and social pressure as key factors.
