Kota Kinabalu: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) and Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP)’s decision to contest under their own logos in the coming State Election should not be seen as hostility towards Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), said former Sabah Bersatu Deputy Chief Aksyah Nasrah.

He said the move was made after careful consideration by both parties’ leadership and must be respected, adding that it should not be regarded as a hostile split as portrayed by the opposition.

According to him, during the recent GRS Presidential Council meeting, both party presidents had suggested that Pakatan Harapan (PH) use the GRS flag and logo.

However, the proposal was rejected by a majority of component party presidents as it was closely tied to PH’s coalition policy.

“As experienced leaders, the Star and SAPP presidents accepted the majority decision in a gentlemanly manner despite the setback.

“This reflects the professional conduct of GRS leadership. The principle of being gentlemanly and dynamic in accepting even difficult decisions remains intact,” he said in a statement, Friday.

Aksyah reminded GRS members to remain calm and focus on strengthening their election machinery in their respective areas, saying the chances of victory remain strong.

“This matter is settled. As a democratic and dynamic coalition, GRS respects the courageous decision of both party leadership. We hope Star and SAPP will also achieve victory, paving the way for future political cooperation with GRS for the people and the State,” he said.
