A team of the Special Task Force (STF) in Karnal has foiled an alleged plot to murder a Kurukshetra-based doctor and arrested three suspected gang members.

The police initially arrested Shubham, a resident of Ludhiana in Punjab, and recovered two automatic firearms and 25 live cartridges from his possession. His arrest subsequently led to the detention of two more suspects and exposed details of the gang’s alleged criminal activities.

Giving details, Inspector Deepender Rana, in-charge of the Karnal STF, said Shubham had allegedly been tasked with carrying out the murder of a doctor in Kurukshetra. Acting on intelligence inputs, the STF arrested him last week before the planned crime could be executed. He was produced before a court and remanded in police custody for four days.

During interrogation, Shubham reportedly disclosed the names of two associates, Ashu and Vikas, both residents of Ludhiana district. The STF subsequently arrested them in Punjab on Monday. They were later taken on two days’ police remand.

According to the police, all three accused are linked to the notorious Kala Rana gang, which is allegedly involved in extortion and other violent criminal activities across Haryana and Punjab.

Investigators further revealed that Shubham and his associates had previously been involved in extortion-related firing incidents in several Punjab cities, including Mohali, Kapurthala, Ludhiana and Phagwara, Rana said.

Preliminary investigations suggest the gang extorted money from businessmen and other targets. In cases where their demands were not met, the gang allegedly carried out firing attacks to intimidate victims and exert pressure.

“The accused were produced before the court on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody,” Rana added.
