
Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old man was on Thursday sentenced to 10 months’ jail for having a stolen antenna cover belonging to a communications service provider.
Elister Husli pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to keeping a stolen Maxis antenna cover belonging to Maxis Sdn Bhd at 1am on June 20 at a house in Kg Kionsom Inanam.
The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction.
The court was informed by the prosecution that the antenna cover was found stolen from the Maxis substation site at Jalan Kokol, Manggatal at 10.25am on June 6 and that the said antenna cover, which was new, was placed at the said site and was about to be installed on the said day.
Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik, prosecuting, said Elister confessed to having dissolved the aluminium in the antenna and sold it to a scrap metal shop. The court ordered Elister to serve the jail term from the date of his arrest.
Meanwhile, another man was jailed 10 months for shoplifting.
Ramlin Abd Azis admitted to stealing a handphone worth RM839 at 2.06pm on March 17 at Lam Mobile Enterprise, Inanam new township.
The prosecution told the court that prior to the incident, Ramlin entered the premises on the pretext of looking for a handphone and was holding a Xiaomi redmi handphone.
Suddenly Ramlin took the gadget and ran out of the outlet without paying.
Unrepresented, Ramlin requested a lenient sentence.
Kelvan applied for an adequate sentence and also applied for Ramlin to be referred to the Immigration Department.
Charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction, Ramlin was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.
In another case, the court sentenced a 33-year-old man to six months jail for having housebreaking tools.
Cassey Connel Joseph pleaded guilty to having 16 tools comprising spanners, pliers, screwdrivers, two scissors and Allen key set which he has no valid reasons of having them at 9pm on June 19 at Teck Guan Villa, Jalan Lido, Penampang.
The offence under Section 18(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which carries a jail term of up to six months jail on conviction.
