In a major crackdown to prevent the misuse of subsidised agriculture grade urea in industry, joint teams of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Industry Department and GST Department conduced surprise inspection at 15 plywood factories in Yamunanagar district.
During the inspection, the joint teams checked records including bills related to the purchase of technical grade urea.
According to information, the inspection work began on Monday and continued on Tuesday also.
“The joint teams checked 10 plywood factories on Monday and five factories on Tuesday. During inspection, no unauthorised storage of subsidised agricultural grade urea was found in any of the factories,” said Bal Mukund Sharma, Quality Control Inspector (QCI) of Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department, Yamunanagar.
He said that plywood units were asked to produce records, bills and other documents related to the purchase and use of technical grade urea.
“The said units showed the consumption of more than 7500 bags of technical grade urea and the teams thoroughly verified the documents and stock records during the checking process,” said QCI Bal Mukund Sharma.
Members of the inspection team included QCI Bal Mukund Sharma, Taxation Inspector Anil Kaushik and other officers.
Dr Aditya Pratap Dabas, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Yamunanagar, said that about 250 plywood units were operating in the district.
“The joint inspection drive will continue in future as well to prevent the possible misuse of agricultural grade urea in industrial units,” said Dr Dabas.
He maintained that the drive was aimed at ensuring that subsidised agricultural grade urea meant for farmers was not diverted for industrial purposes.
It is alleged that the owners of a number of plywood factories are using subsidised agriculture grade urea illegally to prepare glue, which is used as an adhesive to make plywood products.
The rates of subsidised agriculture grade urea are much lower than the rates of technical grade urea.
