PUTRAJAYA – A former minister was arrested on Tuesday to assist in investigations following the revelation of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji (TH).
Quoting the official TikTok account of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the man in his 60s was detained at approximately 4.30pm whilst attending to give a statement at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya.
Meanwhile, MACC commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, when contacted, confirmed the arrest of the former minister.
"He (the former minister) will be remanded at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court tomorrow morning (Wednesday)," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
On Aug 27, a former chairman of the Tabung Haji Board and a former secretary-general of the Treasury were remanded for seven days until Aug 2 to assist in the investigation regarding the issue.
Prior to this, a former chief executive officer of TH was also remanded for seven days until Aug 27.
In the RCI report revealed on July 29, a total of 25 main recommendations were put forward to enhance transparency, professionalism, and governance within the institution.
Among the main recommendations contained in the RCI report was to prohibit active politicians from sitting on the TH Board of Directors to avoid political interference.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, also decreed that the investigation into the TH RCI report be conducted thoroughly to the very end.
