CANDON, Ilocos Sur — Taiwan advanced to the final of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Volleyball Cup with a 25-23, 25-16, 25-14 victory over Kazakhstan on Saturday at the Candon City Arena.
Yu-Chun Tsai had 18 points on 17 attacks and an ace, while Yi-Chi Chang came up with 14 points on 10 attacks, three aces and a block for Taiwan, which entered the semifinals as the No. 2 team from pool A.
Taiwan advances to the title match this time after a third-place finish in last year’s AVC Women’s Nations Cup.
Tatyana Yatskiv scored 12 and Kristina Belova delivered 10 points for Kazakhstan, which now plays in the bronze medal match as it seeks to improve on its fourth-place finish at last year's AVC Nations Cup.
It was a bitter result for Kazakhstan, which had clinched the top spot in Pool B after completing a five-match sweep of pool play, including a five-set win over three-time champion Vietnam.
South Korea and Vietnam dispute the other finals berth.
“We’re very happy, it’s the first time we’re going to the final. I’m really excited,” Taiwan setter Yi-Jen Liao said. TMT
