
Tuaran: The newly-upgraded Tamu Desa Pekan Tenghilan, completed at a cost of nearly RM200,000, was one of the 93 Tamu Desa projects implemented by the Madani Government through the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Kuskop) in Sabah and Sarawak last year.
Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the Tamu Desa, which was completed on the Sep 28, was part of the domestic Look East Policy initiative he had introduced at Kuskop, which places additional focus on both states without compromising the ministry’s existing priorities nationwide.
Advertisement“Starting last year, the Madani Government allocated a budget under the 2024 Budget to initiate the construction of Tamu Desa premises. “These Tamu Desa are built using different concepts, either as stalls or open halls, and are constructed as new facilities or upgrades to existing markets,” he said.
He said this when officiating the Tamu Desa Pekan Tenghilan premises at Tapak Tanah Persatuan Keluarga Keturunan Damit (KKD), as well as the opening of the KOP-KKD office, the Koisaan Damit Tenghilan Sabah Berhad Cooperative.

Read more Ewon said the implementation of the Tamu Desa Project in Sabah and Sarawak is part of the government’s effort, through Kuskop, to provide additional focus on these two states.
“In addition, we have introduced the Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Enhancement Programme (Beep Plus), a special grant for Bumiputera entrepreneurs in Sabah and Sarawak.
Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});“Last year, the ministry provided funding to 113 companies in Sabah and 50 Bumiputera companies in Sarawak, amounting to grants worth over RM13 million. “This is part of the demands from the people of Sabah and Sarawak, particularly entrepreneurs, which Kuskop has addressed,” he said.
He also said this year, his Ministry will continue implementing Beep Plus and the development of Tamu Desa premises in both states.
