After visiting Turkish Aerospace Malaysia (TUSAS) site office in Cyberjaya, with senior committee members of Persatuan Aeroangkasa Myaerosatu, for an impactful collaborative meeting with top management of TUSAS, I could still recall flying from Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul on board Turkish Airlines for a better connection to Europe. From the moment I stepped onboard, there's a sense of comfort and thoughtful service that sets it apart. A curated in-flight meals, the experience was top-tier. Alongside the omelette, I enjoyed hot bread roll, a refreshing pot of Turkish coffee - an excellent start to the morning.
Turkish Airlines is the flag carrier of Turkey that operates scheduled services to 352 destinations in Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa and the Americas. I heard Murat Seker, a longtime CFO, was appointed to the board in April, 2026. He succeeded Ahmet Bolat, who has been Chairman & CEO since early 2022, said “In the past, we've always favored financing; we want to own our aircraft. Today, roughly 150 of our 540 aircraft are owned and fully paid off, about 250 aircraft are financed and 120 are under operating lease; the remaining aircraft are owned. We want to keep it that way. It provides us the flexibility.”
Focusing on staff training and development, CEO Murat Seker confirmed, “Turkish Airlines has signed an agreement with HAVELSAN to supply 12 new flight simulators, comprising eight Full Flight Simulators (FFS) and four Flight Training Devices (FTD), as part of its plans to expand pilot training capacity.”
The simulators will support the airlines' growing training infrastructure, including its new simulator hangers, whose first phase is scheduled to become operational in 2027, and the new Flight Training Center, expected to be completed in 2028. Regardless, there is any crisis, be it economic or geopolitical.
