KUALA LUMPUR - A thin wire believed to have come into contact with the power supply system has been identified as the cause of a minor explosion involving a Rapid KL Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at Taman Jaya Station bound for Putra Heights yesterday.

In a statement today, Rapid KL said investigations found that the thin wire, which had melted at the scene, was not part of the train’s components or the rail infrastructure.

It said Train No. 57, which was involved in the incident at 7.18 pm, was immediately withdrawn from service for further inspection.

"All passengers were safely disembarked at the next station before continuing their journey on another train.

"Preliminary inspections by the technical team found no damage to the train or any of its components,” it said.

Rapid KL said inspections of the track between Universiti Station and Taman Jaya Station also found the infrastructure to be in good condition and safe for operations.

"A detailed inspection was carried out after operating hours as a verification measure to ensure the continued safety of the service.

"Rapid KL takes every safety-related incident seriously and will continue its investigations while implementing the necessary preventive measures to avoid a recurrence,” it said.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and services on the Kelana Jaya Line continued to operate as usual.

Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing an LRT train departing from a station before a loud bang was heard and sparks were seen. - BERNAMA
