
Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old mechanic was on Tuesday fined a total of RM2,000 on two counts of threatening a man and damaging a vehicle at the Waterfront here last year.
Lim Zhan Zhen’s whose case came up for trial before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie on Tuesday changed his plea to guilty to both charges.
Lim was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,000 or two months jail on the first count of criminally intimidating one Mark Peter Hedger at 9.45pm on Sept 9, 2021 at the Waterfront parking lot, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen.
Lim was fined another RM1,000 or two months’ jail on the second count of committing mischief by damaging the rear window of a vehicle and causing losses of RM950 at the exit route of the same place and time.
The first count under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or fine, or both, on conviction, while the second count under Section 427 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one year and five years’ and fine, or both, if convicted.
Counsel Julhamri Jumhani, representing Lim, applied for leniency on the grounds that he felt remorseful for his action, it was his first offence and also cooperate with the police throughout the case.
In another case, an unemployed man was sentenced to 36 months’ jail and fined RM2,000 or 12 months’ jail for having stolen items.
Inozru Gimbat, 26, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, to having various stolen items including two laptops, a camera, eight memory cards, bags, jewellery and personal documents belonging to one Choo Heng Cheng at 11.30am on May 13, this year in front of a shop at Sabindo town, Kinarut, Papar.
The court was informed by the prosecution that the said items were reported stolen from a house at Casablanca Residence, Kolombong, on May 9, this year.
Inozru had committed an offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine, or both, on conviction.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old woman was jailed one month and fined RM3,300 or six months’ jail for having gambling paraphernalia.
Jessica meted out the sentence to Nur Alisah Ting after she pleaded guilty to having four Wah Hui riddles tickets illegally at Putatan town at 5pm on March 3, this year.
The court was informed that Alisah was arrested by police during the “Ops Dadu”.
Alisah was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
