SANDAKAN: Three stilt houses were destroyed in a fire at Jambatan 5, Kampung Gas Tengah, here, on Wednesday afternoon.
District Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said his team received a distress call at 1.41pm and arrived at the scene, about 15km away, at 1.55pm.
A total of 14 firefighters worked to put out the flames.
The operation was brought under control by 2.19pm and fully concluded at 4.51pm, preventing the fire from spreading to 37 nearby houses.
No casualties were reported, while police, Civil Defence Force, Welfare Department, IOI emergency response team and Sekong community leaders assisted at the scene, with the cause and losses still under investigation.
