PENAMPANG: Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick said the bridge project connecting the Moyog River Agricultural Station between Timpangoh and Babagon is being completed much faster than expected.

During a working visit to the project site here on Monday, the Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development stated that the project is 37 per cent ahead of schedule and expressed confidence that the bridge will be ready for public use by the end of this year.

“This project is a specific request from Penampang residents, particularly those in Mukim Babagon. Current progress is very encouraging and I am confident it will have a huge impact on the local community’s livelihood,” he said.

The RM16.8 million concrete bridge project, spanning 90 metres, began construction in June 2024 with a two-year implementation period.

It will benefit approximately 6,000 residents in the Babagon area, especially farmers in marketing their agricultural produce and facilitating daily movement to workplaces and schools.

Ewon also thanked the Public Works Department and the implementing contractor for their commitment to completing the project ahead of target.

“This bridge is a facility that has been long awaited by thousands of Mukim Babagon residents. Previously, they only relied on one exit route, the Low Level Crossing in Babagon, which was difficult to pass through during heavy rain or floods,” he said.

This project is among the Madani Government initiatives that directly impact the lives of the people at the grassroots level.
