The summer transfer window rolls on as Premier League clubs and those around Europe look to add to their squads ahead of the 2025/26 season.

And the biggest move of the window could be about to happen, with Liverpool starting talks with Newcastle over a potential £120m move for Alaxander Isak, according to the Athletic.

Arsenal’s negotiations for Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres had stalled due to a difference in valuation and terms, though the Gunners are now in the process of completing a move for the Sweden striker after a breakthrough in negotiations. It has been similar news regarding Noni Madueke too, with the Chelsea winger undergoing his medical over the weekend.

Tottenham’s window sprung into life last week with a deal for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, though Nottingham Forest are considering legal action against them over what they believe could be an illegal approach for Morgan Gibbs-White. Manchester United continue to focus on a deal for Bryan Mbeumo after securing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, though there remains plenty of focus on outgoings as Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho near the exit door.

All the latest updates, rumours and done deals will be covered in the blog below:

Chris Wilson

Darren Fletcher has taken over as Manchester United’s Under-18 coach as the former technical director takes on another role at Old Trafford and looks to pursue his long-term aim of becoming a manager.

United believe that Fletcher, a graduate of their academy who went on to become vice-captain and make 342 appearances, can help them develop world-class players.

The 40-year-old, who also played for West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City, returned to United in 2020 and has since occupied a series of positions, from coaching the Under-16s to becoming technical director – a title he lost to Jason Wilcox – and being a first-team coach last season.

Axel Tuanzebe sues Man United for alleged medical negligence

15:53

,

Chris Wilson

Axel Tuanzebe is suing Manchester United in a lawsuit as he claims his former club were guilty of clinical negligence.

Defender Tuanzebe, who left United in the summer of 2023, filed a legal claim with the High Court last week in relation to a period from July 2022 involving an injury he had at the time. It is considered a high-value claim, which is understood to be more than £1m.

He suffered hip, ankle and hamstring injuries during his spell at Old Trafford and the now-27-year-old was sidelined through injury for 195 days in his final season there before being loaned to Stoke in January 2023 and then joining Ipswich as a free agent in September 2023.

Brentford looking at Hutchinson as Mbeumo replacement?

14:28

,

Chris Wilson

Rumours emerged yesterday that Brentford are considering signing Omari Hutchinson, with the 21-year-old having impressed last season despite facing relegation at Ipswich.

Hutchinson also impressed in the recent U21 Euros, and signed for Ipswich in a club-record £22.5m deal last season.

It is assumed a fee of at least the same level would be necessary to prise him away from Portman Road.

What Tottenham’s spending spree tells us about new-look Spurs under Thomas Frank

14:04

,

Chris Wilson

As Thomas Frank gave his first thoughts on the Tottenham team he has taken over, the temptation was to assume his initial recruitment drive would be focused on the defensive half of his new side.

"They've clearly shown over the last two seasons that the ability to score goals is fantastic,” he said; the numbers showed Tottenham scored as many times in finishing 17th in the Premier League as Chelsea did in coming fourth. “I know the ethos and the history of the club is massive on attacking football, and I think there's so much attacking talent in the squad.”

A month on, there seems to be rather more attacking talent. Frank’s first major signing, albeit after a loan that meant he was part of the squad the Dane inherited, was Mathys Tel. His second – albeit after the £5m acquisition of the young Japanese defender Kota Takei – was Mohammed Kudus. His third, despite Nottingham Forest’s complaints about Spurs’ approach and suggestions of legal action, could be Morgan Gibbs-White. It would amount to a £150m overhaul to Tottenham’s creative contingent; a £150m upgrade, perhaps. At 20, 24 and 25, they look the shape of Spurs’ future.

The 2023 Champions League winners will earn around £100m a year from the sportswear company in a long-term agreement that will last at least a decade.

It marks a big increase on City’s previous deal with Puma, which was signed in 2019 and was worth £65m a year to the former Premier League champions. And it provides a boost to Pep Guardiola’s transfer funds after the City manager has spent around £300m already in 2025 in acquiring eight new signings.

Bournemouth holding firm on Illia Zabarnyi asking price despite PSG interest

13:01

,

Chris Wilson

Bournemouth are holding out for €70m from Paris Saint-Germain for centre-half Illia Zabarnyi.

The two clubs have been discussing a deal for weeks, with the European champions’ initial proposals only going up to €60m.

The riches of the Club World Cup have arguably worked against Luis Enrique's side, however, as the need for centre-half back-up became clear through the injury to Willian Pacho. Chelsea repeatedly targeted that side to win 3-0.

Zabarnyi had long been a main target for PSG but the need has only increased, strengthening Bournemouth’s hand. They are currently not budging from a valuation of €70m (£59m) for the 22-year-old Ukrainian.

Bukayo Saka’s back-up or Gabriel Martinelli’s replacement? How Noni Madueke will fit in at Arsenal

11:11

,

Chris Wilson

Chelsea winger Noni Madueke is on the verge of joining Arsenal in a deal worth around £50m.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given the green light to the deal for the 23-year-old, who has impressed in spells at Stamford Bridge.

Madueke regularly featured on the right wing for the Blues but, along with many other members of the squad, found continuity hard to come by, and he will leave with many fans thinking he never got the time to really show what he could do in west London.

And Gunners fans will have questions of their own, with the club currently employing one of the world’s best right wingers in Bukayo Saka and some fans feeling the money could have been used better elsewhere.

Here, The Independent looks at how Madueke might fit into the Arsenal team, and whether we can expect the youngster to be a starting player right away.

Why Jordan Henderson can make his Premier League return successful – and prove his doubters wrong

09:59

,

Chris Wilson

The last time Jordan Henderson played in the Premier League, he set up a goal. Not a Liverpool goal, admittedly. His stray pass went to Adam Armstrong in a frenetic 4-4 draw between an already-relegated Southampton side and a Liverpool team who had failed to finish in the top four.

Liverpool knew then it was a farewell: to Roberto Firmino, who scored on his final appearance; to James Milner, the long-serving vice-captain who was out of contract. Just not to Henderson, whose departure has come to look like Liverpool opportunistically offloading him. The consensus since then is that a misplaced pass was far from the worst option Henderson took in the summer of 2023, that he lost his way in a rather more damning effect than simply picking out a Southampton player.

Liverpool interested in Isak & Ekitike

08:48

,

Chris Wilson

While Newcastle are rumoured to be holding an interest in Hugo Ekitike, it was Liverpool who were originally linked with the Frenchman a month ago and The Athletic reports that the Premier League champions are still keeping tabs on him.

Arne Slot’s side want to sign a top striker and though their dream target is Alexander Isak, the difficulty in doing that deal means they may need to look elsewhere.

Newcastle are working on a deal with around €75m to sign Ekitike, and though they maintain that they would be signing him to play alongside Isak, that move could open the door for the Swedish striker’s exit.

Plenty to keep an eye on at St James’ Park and Anfield then.
