
PUTRAJAYA – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad struggled to contain his emotions when he visited the grave of his late wife, Tun Dr Hasmah Mohamad Ali, at Pusara Negara, Presint 20, here on Thursday.
Dr Mahathir arrived at 11am from the National Heart Institute (IJN) and spent about 20 minutes at Dr Hasmah’s grave.
He was later seen praying and scattering flowers over the grave as a final tribute to his late wife.
Dr Mahathir’s grief and longing were clearly visible as he sat by the graveside.
Members of the public who were also at the cemetery were moved by the moment.
Tun Dr Hasmah died at 9.20am on Sept 28 at IJN, Kuala Lumpur, at the age of 100.
Her remains were later laid to rest at Pusara Negara on the same day after the Government accorded her a state funeral ceremony.
Earlier, her eldest daughter, Datuk Marina Mahathir, also visited her mother’s grave.
Among those present were members of the public from various walks of life, as well as renowned singer Datuk Ramli Sarip and Putrajaya Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.
