Two motorcyclists killed in separate Keningau crashes

KENINGAU: Two motorcyclists were killed in separate road accidents here on Thursday night and Friday afternoon.

In the first incident at about 10.40pm on Thursday, 20-year-old Chenderawaseh Azami died at the scene from severe head injuries after losing control of his motorcycle along Jalan Batu 5 Keningau-Nabawan.

District police chief Supt Yampil Garai said preliminary investigations revealed the victim was travelling from Keningau towards Kampung Kebulu when his machine skidded on loose gravel on a downhill bend, throwing him onto the middle of the road.

In the second accident at about 12.37pm on Friday, 27-year-old Wann Samuji was killed after his motorcycle collided with a Toyota Hilux at Batu 11, Jalan Keningau-Sook.

Yampil said the collision occurred when the 61-year-old driver of the Toyota Hilux allegedly attempted to overtake a lorry on a double white line and crashed into the oncoming motorcyclist.

The victim succumbed to severe head injuries and a severed right leg at the scene before his body was sent to the Keningau Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
