- The UK is forecast to experience increased storms and rain over autumn and winter, although recent heavy rainfall is insufficient to immediately relieve the nation's severe drought conditions.
- Prime Minister Andy Burnham warned of potential heavy rainfall straight after the summer heatwaves, which have left 71.3 per cent of England and all of Wales suffering from drought.
- The National Drought Group has increased its meeting frequency to weekly to monitor the volatile conditions, warning that drought conditions may persist into the new year until reservoirs and groundwaters are fully replenished.
