SHAH ALAM – Caretaker Johor Menteri Besar and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Machap state seat, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, is leading the contest based on unofficial results of the Johor state election as of 7.30pm.
According to unofficial results published on the MyUndi website, Onn Hafiz secured 6,509 votes, ahead of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Nor Hafiz Roslan, who garnered 2,393 votes.
A total of 8,902 votes had been counted for the constituency at the time of reporting.
In the 2022 Johor state election, Onn Hafiz successfully defended the Machap seat with a majority of 6,543 votes after polling 11,029 votes.
He defeated Perikatan Nasional (PN–Pas) candidate Azlisham Azahar, Muda candidate R. Sangaran and Pejuang candidate Sharuddin Md Salleh.
He had previously won the Layang-Layang state seat in the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018 by a narrow majority of 364 votes, defeating PKR candidate Murugan Muthu Samy.
A total of 35,206 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the Machap constituency in this Johor state election.
Earlier, Onn Hafiz cast his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Simpang Renggam.
