JOHOR BAHRU – Caretaker Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has successfully defended his Machap state seat in a commanding performance during the latest Johor state election.
According to the official results from the Election Commission, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate secured a decisive victory, clinching the constituency with a majority of 15,375 votes.
The final tally saw Onn Hafiz receive 20,382 votes, comfortably outpacing his opponent, Nur Hafiz Roslan of Pakatan Harapan (PH-Amanah), who garnered 5,007 votes.
The result marks a significant strengthening of his mandate in the constituency compared to the 2022 state election, where he previously won with a majority of 6,543 votes.
Analysts had previously identified Onn Hafiz, 47, as a key factor for the BN coalition, highlighting his economic track record and hands-on leadership style as major contributors to his support base.
As the state government transitions following the election, this strong showing reinforces Onn Hafiz’s position as a central figure in Johor's political landscape.
