If you’ve watched the trailer, you will know how there’s a lot to unpack, although it unfolds on a lighter note. In fact, each frame tells a different story, and that speaks volumes about the geniuses at Netflix who have compiled a season’s worth of chaos into a two-minute-long trailer. After all, it’s never just a replay of all that has happened. Beyond the obvious, the trailer comes loaded with revelations behind Christian Horner’s dismissal from the RBR team, the internal chaos at the Alpine F1 team, and more.
With the internet hard at work to decode what the new episodes could be titled or have at their core, let us take you through our version of a detailed DTS trailer breakdown, piece by piece, bit by bit, as nothing gets left on the table.
Unpacking all the ‘Drive To Survive’ season 8 trailer Easter eggs

The year 2025 marked one of Formula 1’s most closely-competitive seasons despite one of the biggest driver lineup changes in the history of the motorsport. The rookies came prepared, the seasoned drivers found their rhythm with their teams, and a three-way battle to win the most coveted title took as long as the final lap of the season.
And while we watched every single moment unfolding in front of our eyes, we knew the Netflix boom mics would bring us the rest. And by that, we mean eight times the heat, the pressure, and the absolute need for the drivers to simply Drive To Survive as the top 20 drivers competing at the pinnacle of motorsport.
Curious to know more? Here are all the Easter eggs from Netflix’s Drive To Survive season 8 trailer, which revisits the 2025 F1 season.
1. New team dynamics for drivers
With the focus on the biggest driver lineup switch right before the largest regulation change, we can all admit in unison that we saw the Hamilton-Ferrari and Sainz-Williams angle coming from miles away. The trailer shows the duo dressed in new team colours, making it clear their move to the new teams will be a major talking point throughout the season. The Drive To Survive season 8 trailer also gives us a glimpse at Nico Hulkenberg in Sauber green and Esteban Ocon at Haas, reminding us there are more driver changes to be revisited from the season.
2. Rookies on the rise
The two seasoned drivers joining different teams were not the only major lineup changes in 2025, as six rookies paired with their experienced counterparts for the new campaign. We also expect to see the rookies making their podium appearances and breaking records with a dedicated episode on their arrival in Formula 1 and journey throughout their maiden outing.
3. McLaren’s championship campaign
Will Buxton, as always, casually delivered one of the biggest Easter eggs in the Drive To Survive season 8 trailer by predicting that McLaren is the ‘team to beat’. The papaya side entered the 2025 campaign with a job to defend the Constructors’ title, and were the season favourites according to the bookmakers and critics. And while it did lift both the trophies, the internal conflict within the team and among the teammates could not be concealed.
We hope we get to hear the other side of the story, as McLaren Team Boss and CEO Zak Brown, and world champion Lando Norris, talk about the controversial team orders and taking the ‘may the best driver win’ approach for one of the team’s most crucial campaigns in 2025.
4. Ferrari woes for Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton’s happy smile turns into an upside-down frown almost instantly in the trailer, and that sums up the seven-time world champion’s maiden outing with the Scuderia Ferrari team in 2025. The former Mercedes man struggled throughout his campaign with the ‘Prancing Horse’, and we are certain the new DTS season will surely bring that to the forefront.
As painful as it may be to watch, we may have to peek through our hands and fast-forward our way to mend our tormented heart.
5. The new second driver curse unlocked at Alpine
No offence, but Flavio Briatore could well make a villain in the MCU with the menacing introductory shot he has delivered in the teaser. A visibly tense Jack Doohan had to face quite the heat, being the second driver alongside Pierre Gasly in his debut outing in Formula 1.
With Alpine roping in Franco Colapinto from Williams and the hate channelled at Doohan to vacate the seat for the Argentine driver, it was anything but a remarkable maiden campaign for the miserable Australian driver, deeply bothered by his time at Alpine. We surely hope to get behind-the-scenes access to the chaotic second driver situation at the French side.
6. Trouble at Oracle Red Bull Racing
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen and his team, Red Bull Racing, had to navigate through a storm, quite literally, as a chaotic 2025 campaign broke all hell loose on the usually ferocious side. From useful hands at work departing the team, to Verstappen solely fighting for the championship win against the two McLaren drivers in the dominant car, the Austrian energy drink constructor had plenty on its plate with a lot of trouble served.
We hope to see the cinematic outing that the RBR team had last year, as Verstappen made a monstrous comeback in the second half of the season, with Laurent Mekies taking charge of the constructor as the new CEO and team principal.
7. The Mercedes seat on offer
Amidst all the chaos, the Mercedes seat up for grabs was another crucial highlight of the 2025 season. The ‘Silver Arrows’ team was extremely pleased to have two talented drivers in its lineup, with George Russell and Kimi Antonelli hunting down the McLarens and fighting off the Ferraris and Red Bulls. However, team boss Toto Wolff’s side quest to secure Max Verstappen as a driver for the side 2026 onwards and beyond unlocked a potential threat for the now leading man at Mercedes, George Russell.
The Drive To Survive season 8 trailer sneaks in one of the most pivotal Easter eggs for the 2025 campaign, which even led to the media surrounding the four-time world champion for answers on his potential move to the ‘Wolff camp’ on the grid.
8. Christian Horner’s instant dismissal from the RBR side
“I’ve had something taken away from me that wasn’t my choice,” said former CEO and team principal of the energy drink side Christian Horner, following his dismissal after working with the team for 20 long years. With scandals, controversies, and internal conflict surrounding RBR from all sides, we are finally about to get some disclosure on what actually went down at the Austrian constructor.
9. Williams on the rise
We would expect all the midfield teams to get their moment in the sun in the Netflix docuseries, but with glimpses of Atlassian Williams team principal James Vowles and former owner of the British side Claire Williams, we do believe it is Williams who is about to get their own episode and extra screen time to shine bright.
The season 8 Drive To Survive trailer has sneaked in visuals of ‘Carbono’ (Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon) and the wholesome Sainz podium moment in the two-minute-long clip. It seems like the perfect time for us to revisit the surprising yet sensational campaign the British constructor had to achieve a P5 finish in the WCC rankings.
10. Three-way battle for the World Drivers’ Championship title
With Max Verstappen’s monstrous comeback and the McLaren duo’s stressful run to hold onto the points advantage all unwrapping in the second half of the season, we sure do hope we get to see more of the three-way title fight between Verstappen, Norris, and Piastri. Also, we surely can expect to relive one of the most intense final race title wins of Formula 1 again, right? After all, the curtain dropper at Abu Dhabi truly left us gasping for air with the title win decided in the final moments of the race.
That’s a wrap on our feature unpacking all the Easter eggs from the Drive To Survive season 8 trailer. The Netflix Formula 1 docu-series has achieved chart-topping success globally and contributed to the ever-evolving fanbase of the motorsport. But for Netflix, it comes at the cost of navigating through annoyed drivers and troubled teams.
With the trailer now out and the season set to drop on 27 February, all we can say is we cannot wait for the docuseries to arrive. For now, all signs point towards a slow-burning season 8 as the drama and chaos intensify with every clip that rolls out in the teaser.
