MANILA, Philippines -- The University of the Philippines denied the University of Santo Tomas, 92-85, for a winning start in the UAAP Season 89 men's basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday.
Francis Nnoruka logged 12 rebounds and 18 points including the defining dunk that gave the Fighting Maroons a 90-79 lead against the Growling Tigers with 26.4 seconds left.
Noy Remogat banged 11 points and seven assists as UP topped the UST for the third straight game dating back to last season.
Mark Lemit drilled 19 points and dished out three assists to pace UST.
