Kota Kinabalu: United Sabah Islamic Association (Usia) will devise a strategic plan to assist the State Government to achieve its Sabah Maju Jaya objectives.
Its President, Datuk Sapawi Ahmad said the three-year plan would focus on Islamic development, especially among the youths, in the fields of propagation, education and socio-economic development, among others.
He was speaking after leading an Usia delegation to pay a courtesy call on Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, at Istana Negeri, Thursday.
He said the purpose of the visit was to introduce the new Usia office bearers to the Head of State and brief him on its plans and activities.
“At the same time, of course, we listened to His Excellency’s views on our plans and how best to execute them and whatever advice he might give,” he added.
Usia was founded in 1969 by the then Chief Minister, the late Tun Datu Hj Mustapha Datu Harun, and in 1972 moved into its own building at Sembulan.
“Today, we have a mixture of experienced Muslim leaders and young professionals and I am confident of achieving the objectives of our three-year plan which is also the duration of our term of office,” he added.
Among the office bearers present were Usia deputy president, Abdul Hakim Ghulam Hassan; vice-presidents Madalie Basri and Dr Suhaili Timan, Women’s Wing chief Datuk Siti Aminah Aching and Information Chief Datuk Abdullah Hussin.
