UST boosts semis bid, fends off UE

MANILA, Philippines — Boosting their Final Four bid, the UST Golden Tigresses fended off the UE Lady Warriors, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball at their home lair Quadricentennial Pavilion on Easter Sunday.

UST improved to a 7-4 win-loss card, rising from fifth to third place in the meantime.

UE, which threatened UST with a 9-0 run to tie at 24 after being down 15-24 in the second set, stayed winless at 0-11 and suffered its 25th straight loss dating back to last season.

The Tigresses' ascent dropped the Adamson Lady Falcons (6-4) to fourth and the FEU Lady Tamaraws to fifth (6-4).

Adamson plays second-seed NU later.

Angge Poyos banged 17 points and logged nine excellent digs plus six receptions to lead the Tigresses.

Khy Cepada racked up 17 points and seven digs to pace the Lady Warriors.
