FAR Eastern University (FEU) fights to stay alive while University of Santo Tomas (UST) looks to complete the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball stepladder semifinal cast in the final game day of the elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
The FEU Lady Tamaraws take on the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles at 1 p.m. while the UST Golden Tigresses face the defending champs National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
Sitting at No. 5 with a 7-6 win-loss card in the standings, FEU will keep its semis bid alive if it beats Ateneo.
The Lady Tamaraws need that win paired with a Tigresses’ (8-5) loss to the Lady Bulldogs (9-4) to stay alive.
That scenario would create a tie at No. 4 between FEU and UST, which will figure in a playoff for No. 4 and the last semis slot.
An FEU loss would already complete the semis cast regardless of the outcome in the UST-NU match.
If the Tamaraws win, the Tigresses must beat the Bulldogs to lock that last semis berth and avoid that playoff for No. 4 against their neighbors.
Positioning
for NU and Adamson
If FEU and UST are fighting to enter that stepladder semis created when La Salle earned an outright Finals berth with an eliminations sweep, NU and Adamson are hoping to lock that No. 2 seed and secure the bye in the stepladder semis.
For the Lady Bulldogs, they simply need to win against the Tigresses to clinch the No. 2 seed and the bye.
Otherwise, a triple tie at 9-5 will be created which would have UST at No. 4 with the least match points (27).
With 28 points apiece, NU and Adamson will figure in a playoff for the No. 2 seed and the bye.
The loser faces the Tigresses in the first phase of the stepladder semis.
The winner of the first phase then takes on the No. 2 seed in another knockout game, where the victor advances to the Finals to face La Salle.
