Valdez open to national team return

CREAMLINE team captain Alyssa Valdez reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the national flag, declaring she is always ready to represent the Philippines as uncertainty surrounds the buildup of Alas Pilipinas for the 2026 AVC Women’s Cup.

With several top stars opting out, Valdez has surfaced as a steady and experienced presence who could anchor the national squad set to compete in Candon next month.

Despite the growing buzz, the Philippine National Volleyball Federation has yet to release the official lineup — and even Valdez herself remains in the dark.

“I will never get tired of representing the country. Hopefully, we can all contribute in our own little ways,” Valdez said during a thanksgiving event for the Creamline Cool Smashers, Choco Mucho Flying Titans, and Criss Cross King Crunchers hosted by Allianz at the Allianz PNB Life in Makati.

The veteran spiker admitted she has not made a final decision regarding her participation, citing the lack of confirmed details.

“As for the details, I’m sorry, but I don’t know much yet. Once everything is clear, we’ll definitely let you know. I hope you understand,” she added.

Her potential return comes at a crucial time, with key national team players — including Jia de Guzman — expected to skip the tournament, along with rising stars Bella Belen, Shaina Nitura and Alyssa Solomon.

Their absence has forced the PNVF to recalibrate, exploring a mix of collegiate standouts from the NCAA and UAAP, alongside select PVL talents, to form a competitive roster.

“It’s inspiring to be surrounded by young, talented players. Hopefully, they continue to grow, and we can all support them,” she said. TMT
