KUNAK: Several vehicles were stranded on the main gravel road – Jalan Tingkayu in Kunak – after a lorry broke down in the middle of the route on Sunday afternoon.
The situation hindered the movement of vehicles from both directions, worsened by the deteriorating condition of the road.
It is understood that a broken-down lorry was stuck in the middle of the road, while the left and right sides of the existing road surface were uneven, full of potholes and protruding stones.
“This situation is dangerous for road users, especially drivers, as the road has not been properly maintained,” said one concerned road user.
Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, when contacted by Daily Express, assured that the matter is being looked into and action will be taken immediately.
As of the time of reporting, light vehicles remained unable to pass through the affected stretch of road, with the congestion persisting into the night.
The disruption has raised concerns among residents, including a teacher from SK Ladang Binuang, who expressed worry over the impact on school operations as classes are scheduled to resume on Monday.
Jalan Tingkayu serves as the access road to SK Ladang Binuang and is also frequently used by heavy vehicles, including lorries and other transportation heading to the surrounding oil palm plantations.
