The panchayat of Maujgarh village in Dabwali on Wednesday announced that it would neither support bail nor provide recommendations for any village youth found involved in drug trafficking, in a strong stand against drug abuse.
The announcement was made by village sarpanch Prince Bishnoi during a drug de-addiction awareness programme organised by Dabwali police in the presence of SP Jasleen Kaur. Villagers backed the decision and pledged to work towards making the village drug-free.
Addressing the gathering, SP Jasleen Kaur said drug addiction was destroying the future of young people. She said police were continuously taking action against drug traffickers, but stressed that public cooperation was essential to effectively curb the menace.
She appreciated the panchayat’s decision to deny support to youths involved in drug trafficking cases, calling it a significant step towards building a drug-free society.
During the programme, a de-addiction camp was also organised in the village. Officials identified youths affected by addiction and prepared a list so they could be provided treatment and counselling at de-addiction centres.
Free medicines were also distributed to those suffering from addiction-related problems.
The SP appealed to villagers to immediately inform police about drug trafficking or the sale of narcotics in the area, assuring that the identity of informers would be kept strictly confidential.
