
The four-day Punjab State Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament concluded today at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium, Jalandhar. The championship was organised under the aegis of the Punjab Badminton Association and witnessed enthusiastic participation from young shuttlers across the state.
In the U-17 category, Jalandhar’s Viren Seth emerged as the star performer by winning both the boys’ singles and boys’ doubles titles alongside Zorawar Singh, while Inayat Gulati clinched the girls’ singles crown. In the U-15 section, Abhimanyu Singh won the boys’ singles title and also partnered with Zorawar Singh to secure the boys’ doubles championship, whereas Japleen Kaur captured the girls’ singles title and also lifted the girls’ doubles trophy with Aradhya Singh.
Speaking to the media, Punjab Badminton Association honorary secretary Ritin Khanna said that nearly 400 players from 23 districts of Punjab participated in the tournament. A total of 10 events in the Under-15 and Under-17 age groups for boys and girls were conducted during the championship, with more than 500 matches being played over four days.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by District Congress Committee president Rajinder Beri as the chief guest, who presented trophies, cash awards and other prizes to winners.
Addressing the gathering, Rajinder Beri emphasised the vital role of sports in the overall development of children. He said that sports help youngsters remain healthy, active and physically fit while also instilling important life values such as discipline, teamwork, dedication, leadership and respect for others.
“Sports are not merely about winning medals and trophies; they teach children how to face both success and failure with confidence, resilience and a positive attitude,” he remarked.
