A woman’s Threads post claiming rude behaviour by an e-hailing driver, including allegedly taking a passenger’s phone to give himself a five-star rating, has gone viral and sparked online debate.

A woman has ignited discussion online after claiming she encountered a rude e-hailing driver who allegedly opened the car window during the rain and took a passenger’s phone to give himself a five-star rating.

The incident was shared on Threads by @elfredanrmn and has since gained more than 13,300 likes and nearly 1,000 comments, with many users urging the passenger to report the driver to the platform.

In the post, the user claimed the driver became upset after she bought drinks and allegedly told her to throw them away before later taking her friend’s phone.

“I took an e-hailing service and got a driver who was seriously rude. While it was raining, he opened the window and then got angry and told me to throw away the drinks I had just bought.

“He also took my friend’s phone and gave himself a five-star rating, saying his e-hailing app was broken. Seriously rude,” she wrote.

The incident quickly drew criticism online, with many users saying drivers should never touch a passenger’s personal belongings or pressure them into leaving ratings.

“This shouldn’t just be reported to the e-hailing provider, it can also be reported to the police. Nobody has the right to take someone else’s phone,” user broehailing commented.

“Already rude, opened the window while it was raining and even took someone else’s phone to rate himself,” iamraynr added.

Meanwhile, ikhmalfredo expressed frustration over drivers rating themselves, saying: “Enough with drivers rating themselves. I experienced it once too. The moment I entered the car, the driver asked for my phone. I told him, ‘I’m a driver too and I’ve never rated myself before.’ Only then did he become quiet.”

User ajmal_khairi96 urged the e-hailing provider to take action against the driver, stating: “Please take action against this crazy driver. Drivers like this should have their licence revoked immediately.”

While debate continued in the comment section, with some questioning why the woman handed over the phone so easily and did not fight back, other users defended the passengers.

“People asking why they didn’t fight back or snatch the phone back need to remember these were female students entering a stranger’s car at night. If something happened, people would later say they should have just let him do it and report it afterwards. Easy to talk when it’s not happening to you,” zulsinstag wrote.

“To the people getting angry at this girl, what is your problem? What she did was right for her own safety and her friend’s safety too. Imagine if the driver lost his temper because he couldn’t get the phone, that could have put their lives in even more danger,” aliem.srmd commented.

“I would be scared too. They were women after all. Imagine if they refused to hand over the phone and he suddenly drove somewhere else. There are so many worrying cases nowadays,” fatinnshahirah added.

However, the e-hailing provider has already acknowledged the viral post and the incident, noting that further action would be taken.

“Hi, thank you everyone for sharing and highlighting this case. It is not appropriate to open the window during rainy weather and take a passenger’s phone to give a rating,” the company commented.

“We have seen the details shared by @elfredanrmn and will take further action,” it added.
