KOTA MARUDU: A local housewife was seriously injured after being slashed with a machete by her husband, believed due to jealousy, in front of their house in Kampung Mangkupa, on Thursday.
The 40-year-old victim, who suffered 14 wounds measuring between 3.5cm and 9cm, is in stable condition after receiving treatment at Kota Marudu Hospital and will be referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for further treatment.
Kota Marudu District Police Chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said the husband, a foreigner, known as Sius, 50, who holds a passport under his wife’s sponsorship, was detained and will be investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon.
The incident occurred around 8.30am after the victim went to the compound of the house and was reprimanded by the suspect for talking to male neighbours.
He said the victim denied this, which led to a verbal dispute between the suspect and the victim.
“The victim’s nephew/niece was in the house and saw the suspect go to the kitchen to fetch a machete and head towards the victim in front of the house.
“The suspect pinned the victim down and placed the machete against the victim’s neck. After the suspect saw the victim covered in blood, he panicked and fled.
The victim got up and sought help from a neighbour. A neighbour contacted the 999 emergency line to request assistance.”The victim has been married through village customary marriage for 19 years and they have six children.
