SHAH ALAM – Subang Member of Parliament (MP) Wong Chen has resigned from his position, with his resignation taking effect at 5pm on Aug 10.
Wong said he submitted his resignation letter to the Dewan Rakyat speaker five days earlier, on Aug 5.
"On Aug 5, I met with the speaker and handed over my resignation letter as MP. However, we reached a mutual agreement not to disclose any details until 5pm on Aug 10," he said in a Facebook post.
He also uploaded a copy of his resignation letter in the post.
Earlier, PKR Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said he had no information regarding speculation that Wong would be vacating the parliamentary seat.
Fahmi added that any matters relating to the status of the seat were subject to an official announcement by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
Meanwhile, media reports indicated Wong had expressed his intention to resign during a meeting with Johari, with the elected representative expected to announce his decision on Monday.
Wong added that the Aug 5 date was intended to give parliamentary officers three working days to make preparations regarding the vacancy of the Subang seat.
"We will also be removing the honorific 'Yang Berhormat' from all our billboards, signboards and correspondence by next month.
"I will be holding a press conference on Wednesday, at 11am," he said.
