A 40-year-old factory worker identified as Ramu died under suspicious circumstances in Kapurthala, following which his family members staged a protest outside the factory gate on Wednesday, disrupting traffic in the area for nearly three hours.

The deceased was a resident of Deep Nagar near Aujla Phatak and worked at a factory manufacturing electrical equipment. According to information, Ramu had allegedly suffered serious head injuries during a clash inside the factory premises around 10 months ago. Family members alleged that he was attacked with a hammer during the incident. Although the matter was reportedly settled between both parties at that time, Ramu had been undergoing treatment since the assault.

Over the past few days, he was admitted to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he died late Tuesday night during treatment. The family alleged that his death was caused by complications arising from the earlier injuries.

After hours of protest, a settlement was reached between the factory management and the deceased’s family in the presence of the police. As part of the agreement, the family will receive Rs 2 lakh as compensation, while the deceased’s wife, Gayatri Devi, will be given a job at the factory. The management also assured the release of provident fund benefits and pension support for the couple’s two children. Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
