Kangra district hosted its first-ever Roller Skating Championship 2026. The event witnessed children from over 10 schools competing in the 200-metre and 400-metre races across various categories.
For nearly eight years, the Kangra Skating Club has been tirelessly nurturing local talent. Behind this initiative is a dedicated team comprising Sumit, Anil, Akhil, Raj Pal, Abhishek, Kapil and Shubham.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma lauded the Kangra Skating Club for guiding local children towards a brighter future through sports. He observed that such initiatives not only cultivate talent but also promote a healthy lifestyle and help keep youngsters away from substance abuse. On the occasion, he contributed Rs 21,000 towards the construction of a skating ground, while Skating Federation Director Vineet Verma highlighted the federation’s ongoing activities.
Despite the growing popularity of roller skating and the impressive talent emerging from the district, the sport is yet to receive official recognition in Himachal Pradesh. The organisers appealed to the state government to grant formal recognition and develop a dedicated roller-skating track. They expressed hope that, with proper infrastructure and support, Himachal’s young skaters would bring laurels to the state.
