A minor dispute among youths in the Begowal area of Kapurthala turned violent when a young man was critically injured in an attack involving sharp-edged weapons. The injured youth later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced.
Upon receiving information, Begowal police reached the spot, took the body into custody and registered a case against the accused while initiating an investigation. The deceased has been identified as Harpreet Singh, son of Harbhajan Singh, a resident of Balapir, Begowal.
According to information received, Harpreet Singh was seriously injured during a clash between a group of youths near a park in Begowal. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Begowal for treatment.
Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to Jalandhar, but he died on the way. DSP Gagandeep Singh Ghumman, who reached the scene, stated that further action would be taken after the post-mortem examination of the body. He added that police teams have been formed to arrest the accused and all culprits would soon be taken behind bars.
Meanwhile, Begowal police have recorded the statements of the deceased’s family members and registered a case against the accused under stringent sections of the law. Following the incident, the deceased’s family members and supporters staged a protest outside the police station, demanding justice.
The family alleged that the accused are still roaming freely and police have failed to arrest them so far. They urged the administration to immediately arrest the accused and ensure strict punishment so that the family gets justice.
