A youth died under mysterious circumstances near Kathgarh village in Jalalabad subdivision of Fazilka district on Monday. Drug overdose is stated to be the cause of death.
According to information, villagers spotted the body of a youth, identified as Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Jaimalwala village, lying on the outskirts of Kathgarh village, an area allegedly notorious for drug trafficking. The villagers immediately informed the police.
Residents said a syringe was found near the body. Jagdeep was reportedly on his way from his village to Jalalabad town.
Jalalabad DSP Gursewak Singh Brar said the family members of Jagdeep, who worked as a combine harvester driver, informed the police that he had previously been addicted to drugs but had later given up the habit.
The DSP said the family has not sought a detailed investigation into the cause of death. However, he added that the police would try to ascertain the exact cause of death and is determined to curb the drug menace in the area.
