10-month jail for man over 300 stolen nails

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man was sentenced to 10 months’ jail for disposing of 300 stolen nails.

Unemployed Meni Amir pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to disposing of the 2½ inch size nails belonging to one Mohd Redzuan at 7.30pm on Aug 1 in a house at Kg Numbak 2, Manggatal.

The court heard from the prosecution that Meni confessed to having sold the items to buy cigarettes. Meni was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code and carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.

In another case, three people were fined a total of RM4,500 for engaging in gambling activities.

Mujahidin Jeffry, Yuli Mamarinta and Rinah Jaudin were ordered to pay a fine of RM1,500 or two weeks’ jail each after they admitted separately before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence.

Mujahidin and Yuli pleaded guilty to running online gambling activities with their respective handphones on Jan 28, this year at Inanam and on April 24, this year at Kepayan respectively.

Rinah admitted to having one slip of lottery tickets illegally at Donggongon town, Penampang on April 3, last year.

Mujahidin and Yuli were respectively charged under Section 6(1) and 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months, or both, on conviction.

Rinah was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act, which carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
