2 weather systems to bring widespread rains in PH — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Wednesday that two weather systems were bring rains to a big part of the Philippines.

"As of the moment, rains continue in a big part of our country because of two weather systems," Pagasa Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said in the 5 p.m. weather update.

He said that in northern Luzon there was the northeasterly windflow which "is currently bringing rains" in Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Isabela, Aurora "up to early morning tomorrow," and northern Quezon," he said.

"So make sure that if you are going out tonight, bring an umbrella. And take care against moderate to sometimes heavy rains," he said.

As to parts of Palawan, "especially in the southern potions," and southern part of the Visayas, and almost all of Mindanao, Estareja told the public to expect a high chance of rains due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). "Cloudy skies almost all night," he said, adding that "light to moderate with at times heavy rains" were to be expected.

As to the rest of the Visayas and Luzon including Metro Manila, he said, "Still partly cloudy to cloudy skies and there is still a chance of just isolated rains or brief thunderstorms."

Estareja said that on Thursday, a big part of eastern Luzon would have cloudy skies accompanied by rains due to the southward movement of the northeast windflow. "The chance of rain is high in" Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, and almost all of Bicol, he said, adding that these, generally, would be light to moderate rains.

As to the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila, Estareja told the public to expect partly cloudy and sometimes cloudy skies for Thursday morning. The chance of rains by afternoon to evening was high in Rizal, Laguna, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Romblon while there would be isolated rains or localized thunderstorms "over the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila," he said.

The "central and southern portion of Palawan as well as the southern part of the Negros Island Region and Central Visayas as well as the province of Southern Leyte" would be the rainiest on Thursday, Estareja said. "It will be frequently overcast, especially before noon, and then, by afternoon to evening, rains or thunderstorms will become more frequent not just in the places we mentioned but also" in Western Visayas and the rest of Eastern Visayas, he said.

A big part of Mindanao would be affected by the ITCZ on Thursday, Estareja said. The weather, he said, would be overcast and rains were to be expected. He said if there would be rains, he said these would not be continuous but could be heavy.
