MANILA, Philippines – At least three weather systems–shear line, northeast monsoon (‘amihan’), and localized thunderstorms would prevail over the archipelago within the next 24 hours, the national weather bureau said on Monday.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said that the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has not monitored any weather disturbance, specifically a low-pressure area, forming or entering the country’s area of responsibility in the coming days.
He said in a 5 a.m. briefing that Caraga, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental would likely have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the convergence of hot and cold air called "shear line."
“Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains would be possible in these areas,” the Pagasa forecaster warned.
Meanwhile, amihan would prevail over Cagayan Valley, the rest of Visayas, the rest of Bicol Region, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon, bringing cloudy skies with light rain.
The same weather system would prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, bringing partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains, according to Pagasa.
The rest of Mindanao would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, it added.
