Kota Kinabalu: Police issued 78 summonses for various traffic offences during an integrated motorcycle enforcement operation (pic) targeting road hooliganism over the weekend.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain said the operation, dubbed Operasi Bersepadu Motosikal – Samseng Jalanan, was conducted by the district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) together with local police stations from midnight to 5am.
The operation involved two senior officers and 38 personnel, with roadblocks set up at four locations: Jalan Aeropod in Kapayan, Jalan Coastal, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens near the City Mosque, and Jalan UMS near One Sulaman and University Apartment.
“During the operation, a man was also detained on suspicion of drug abuse along Jalan Coastal near Api-Api Centre. He was taken to the police station for a preliminary urine test and the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Shahrudin said the operation aimed to curb road hooliganism (“samseng jalanan”) and improve compliance with traffic laws.
He added that similar operations would continue every weekend to maintain public order and road safety.
Meanwhile, Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Datuk Mohd Azhar Hamin conducted traffic monitoring in the Papar, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu districts to assess traffic flow and the effectiveness of police deployment on the ground.
He advised road users to plan their journeys early, observe traffic rules and practise prudent driving at all times.
